The aim of our school curriculum is as follows:
The curriculum should be both broad and balanced; all areas of learning and knowledge being offered to all children, and each area being given appropriate attention in relation to the whole curriculum. The curriculum should give progression and continuity from rising 5 to 11 years. It should be both relevant and practical, linking school life to the child's own experience and preparing the child for adult life.
In collaboration with our Trust, we have designed a framework that underpins the development of the work on our curriculum we are working on.
During their first year in school children work on the areas of learning which form the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Then children in Years 1 and 2 cover Key Stage 1 of the National Curriculum and in Years 3 to 6 they study Key Stage 2.
At both Key Stages literacy and numeracy are core subjects. Our Creative Curriculum combines all other subjects:
Science, ICT, RE, History, Geography, Art, Design and Textiles, PSHE (personal, social and health education) and Music through topic based learning.
Children also participate in a variety of sporting activities twice a week during PE, and Key Stage 2 children are taught French.
At Husbands Bosworth we are committed to preparing our children for life in the multi racial/multi cultural society, which is Britain today. We aim to promote an understanding of other cultures and religions while recognising our foundation is that of a Christian ethos. We do our utmost to make children aware and tolerant of those with disabilities of any kind.
The Foundation Stage covers the time when a child is 3 to the end of the reception year in school. The Foundation Stage curriculum is organised into seven areas of learning that shape children's learning and these are:
- communication and language
- physical development
- understanding the world
- expressive arts and design
- personal, social and emotional development
